"offline folders" option from the right menu is missing in Windows 7 Ultimate
Hi Yannis, Per my understanding, your purpose is to make the shares from your laptop accessible to other users when the laptop is offline. To achieve this purpose, some configurations and preconditions must be met first: 1. The Offline Files feature is enabled in "Manage offline folders" in Sync Centers.(Enabled by default in Windows 7) 2. The shared folder's properties > Sharing tab > Advanced Sharing > Caching > Offline Settings is selecting "All files and programs that users open from All files and programs that users open from the shared folder are automatically available offline" OR It is set to "Only the files and programs that users specify are available offline"(by default) AND the client has marked this network folder as "Always available Offline". 3. After the settings are configured in 2, the client side must access the file once at least so that it can be cached locally. 4. The users must access the file in the online state to obtain the freshest version after the orignal file has been modified. There are several factors that we should keep in mind: 1. From the server side, we cannot see neither the "Always available Offline" option when right-clicking a folder in local drive (though it has been shared to network) nor the "Offline Files" tab in the folders' properties. The shared folder owner can access the file locally therefore it doesn't make sense that we mark a local folder available offline. 2. From the client side, the "Offline Files" tab in the network folders' properties is only available when the folder has been marked as "Always available Offline" or we have select the third option in Offline Settings on the server side. 3. When accessing an offline file, there is latency about the switchover between online & offline mode based on the network envrionment. Hi, I would like to verify if the computer is in domain. Where is the shared files you want to set offline? If you shared files on your laptop, the offline files should be enabled from the clients which accessing the shared files. To enable Offline files, please check the following settings on the clients. 1. Sync Center -> Manage offline files -> Enable offline files. 2. Services -> enable Offline files -> Start the service. After that, let the clients restart the computer and access shared files, right click them and check if Offline option is available.
